YPI Scotland

The Wood Foundation has hosted an online celebration to shine a light on the vital role young people have continued to play in Scotland’s communities during a challenging year.

Through its Youth and Philanthropy Initiative (YPI), a co-created #generationchange video package was launched to screen in schools throughout the country on Wednesday 2nd June. During ‘YPI Impact Day’, schools marked the occasion with their communities.

Throughout the day, The Wood Foundation drew attention to a range of impact, legacy, innovation, and adaptation stories highlighting YPI’s role in empowering young people to be leaders of change.

Ali MacLachlan, UK Director at The Wood Foundation, said:

“With so many challenges facing the education and third sectors this year, it has taken a great deal of commitment, perseverance, and will from all of our partners to ensure young people are provided this vital opportunity to advocate and secure funds for their communities at a time of acute need. We wanted to take a moment to reflect on all that has been achieved, why these efforts have been important, and look forward to how we build upon the lessons learned to challenge ourselves in the years ahead.

“We are proud of the contribution an empowered #generationchange has made during this generation-defining time. YPI Impact Day, and the #generationchange video package, provide us with a moment to reflect, recognise, and be inspired.”

Students from Dingwall and Leith Academies created a poem which is included in the video, providing an opportunity to profile and platform youth voice around the importance of community engagement opportunities such as YPI.

Ahead of YPI Impact Day, a preview event was held which included a panel discussion with key stakeholders from the education and third sectors, including students who completed YPI this academic year. The event was hosted virtually by Andrea Brymer of STV .
