BigScottishBreakfast.By taking part in the initiative and raising funds for STV Children’s Appeal, The Wood Foundation’s office-based team – along with our remote colleagues who joined via Teams – aimed to raise awareness and contribute to the fight against child poverty across Scotland. The funds raised will support projects that provide free breakfasts for children and young people. No child should start the day hungry.
There is a lot of evidence to suggest that hunger can be a major obstacle in a child’s education. In a survey conducted by Kellogg’s, which partnered with STV’s Children’s Appeal for this campaign, 82% of families reported that skipping breakfast negatively impacts their child’s education.
As a philanthropic organisation focusing on the Scottish education sector through our YPI, Excelerate and RAiSE investments, we also recognise the importance of proper nourishment in children feeling ready and able to learn. The Wood Foundation is committed to addressing the root causes and immediate impacts of childhood poverty, ensuring every child has the opportunity to thrive both in and out of school.
The Wood Foundation has committed £1.5m to the work of the STV Children’s Appeal over a period of 10 years. The Wood Foundation’s funds support the Appeal’s partner charities who are addressing the primary causes of inequity, as well as providing immediate support to those facing poverty.
