The Wood Foundation has committed to a three-year partnership with local children’s charity, Denis Law Legacy Trust to engage its Streetsport participants in early employment pathways.

Denis Law Legacy Trust was involved in The Wood Foundation’s NEW Fund initiative which involved health and wellbeing organisations from Aberdeen City undergo a programme of service design activity. This training was designed to develop the tools, skill, and vision to better connect organisations with their communities in order to most effectively meet their needs.

This pilot activity will see a dedicated staff member work directly with young people to identify how they can best be supported and empowered to realise their potential with a focus on enabling Streetsport participants into secure and sustainable employment pathways.

Mark Williams of Denis Law Legacy Trust said:

“Denis Law Legacy Trust specialises in providing positive pathways for young people across Aberdeen. This exciting new partnership with The Wood Foundation will see us working closer with a targeted age group to help develop their resilience and a range of crucial soft skills that will help lead them to their own positive destinations.”

The Wood Foundation has committed £120,000 over a three-year period which will contribute towards the salary costs for the staff member, programme expenditure, and training.

Ali MacLachlan, UK Director at The Wood Foundation, said:

“This is an investment in capacity and capability for Denis Law Legacy Trust, shifting traditional power dynamics between funders, charities, and service users. This approach aims to amplify the voice of their community and develop solutions which set young people up for success for their chosen secure and sustainable pathways.”

Denis Law Legacy Trust will engage with its Streetsport participants and members of its youth form, Granite City Speaks on developing the new programme.

Denis Law Legacy Trust delivers free to access sport and creative activities to disadvantaged communities across Aberdeen primarily through its Streetsport programme which is ran in partnership with Robert Gordon University.
