RAiSE celebration event, The Wood Foundation

On International Tea Day (21 May), The Wood Foundation Africa CEO David Knopp marked the occasion with a cup of premium Silverback Tea Company.

He was joined by FCDO Development Director Anna Wilson, Silverback CEO Nzeki Samuel Munyao, and the Private Sector team at the British High Commission.

With more than 75% of Rwandan tea supplied by smallholders, the country produces some of the finest black CTC teas in the world.

At The Wood Foundation Africa, we establish Smallholder Service Companies in partnership with farmers across greenfield sites. These companies enable farmers to plant professionally and at scale, offering agronomic advice and training through Farmer Field Schools as well as providing inputs such as seedlings and fertiliser on credit.

In 2019, we partnered with Luxmi Tea Company Luxmi Estates – one of the world’s premiere tea producers – to form the Silverback Tea Company, acquiring Gisovu and Pfunda tea factories. Today, Silverback Tea empowers more than 11,000 farmers, driving sustainable agricultural practices and community development.

A toast to the people behind every cup!
