We are incredibly proud of our Chairman, Garreth Wood, and his wife Nicola who were both named in the King’s Birthday Honours List which marks the extraordinary contributions and service of people across the UK.
They each received an MBE for services to health and charity in recognition of their significant contributions to children’s surgery internationally.
Garreth and Nicola founded Kids Operating Room (KidsOR) in 2018 with the hope and ambition of bringing safe surgery to every child. The global health charity, which focuses on providing surgical services for children in low- and middle-income countries, recently celebrated the opening of its 100th paediatric operating room. KidsOR has pledged to open 100 more operating rooms for children’s surgery by 2030.
Garreth said: “Nicola and I were deeply honoured to each receive an MBE. It is humbling to be recognised in this way, and even more special to share this moment side-by-side with Nicola.
“From co-founding Kids Operating Room together, to championing causes close to our hearts here in Scotland and around the world, our journey has always been doing what we can to give every child a fairer start in life.”
Nicola added: “We accept these awards on behalf of the entire Kids Operating Room Team. These honours reflect the dedication, passion and belief of our colleagues around the world who are working tirelessly to build a fairer world for children.
“Thanks to everyone who has been part of this journey. We are more motivated than ever to keep going.”
