Aberdeen Royal Infirmary is the largest hospital in the North East of Scotland and the amount of parking available at the Forresterhill Health Campus for patients and visitors was inadequate to cope with demand.

The Wood Foundation (TWF) committed £10.75 million to a project with NHS Grampian to build a new multi-storey car park at the hospital which provides an additional 1,000 spaces available to staff, visitors and patients.

The project was championed by TWF Trustee Lady Helen Wood who was concerned about the distress felt by patients and visitors when trying to park at the hospital in what was already an often stressful situation. TWF’s contribution allowed for the construction to go ahead without diverting public funds from vital frontline healthcare services.
