Over the last six decades VSO has brought people together to fight poverty through the lasting power of volunteering.
In 2008, VSO’s Global Xchange (GX) programme benefitted from a three-year investment from TWF totalling £404,000 which provided 54 young people from the UK and Tanzania with the volunteering opportunities. In Aberdeen, the programme is delivered in partnership between Aberdeen Foyer, VSO and the British Council.
Over the course of the investment volunteers participated in the Aberdeen/Tanzania Xchange, completing close to 30,000 volunteering hours on a diverse range of community projects within local schools and grassroots organisations in Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and Dar es Salaam.
TWF’s investment also provided VSO with the opportunity to collaborate with Aberdeen Foyer to pilot the use of community partners to manage the delivery of GX within UK host communities. Consequently, VSO now delivers the majority of their youth exchange programmes using this partnership model.
