Njombe is an ambitious greenfield development project. It is now recognised at the centre of the Tanzanian tea industry.
Unilever has committed their factory in the region being majority smallholder-supplied. There has also been significant support from local and national governments, DFID and a local cooperative has been established.
The services company Njombe Outgrowers Services Company provides a range of agronomic and logistics support, as well as inputs such as seedlings and fertiliser. There are also Farmer Field Schools training 1000 farmers each year.
A detailed case study of our work in Tanzania, focusing on the success of NOSC, is available to read here.
