In 2014 The Wood Foundation donated £400,000 to Albyn School in Aberdeen for a new Science and Engineering Centre compromising of CAD (Computer-aided design) and Science Labratories to be built at the school.

Chemical, mechanical and civil engineering, together with other science subjects, already account for just under half of all university entrants from Albyn School and it is hoped the new labratory facilities will encourage more entrants to study the knowledge and skills that will be most in demand in the future.

The school hopes to be able to share the use of the facilities with other organisations and the labratories will be the latest phase of redevelopment for the school, which is nearly 150 years old. Other recent works have included a junior library, a study area for senior pupils, and the Wood Arts and Lecture Theatre, named after alumni Sir Ian Wood’s family recognising their committment to the school over the years.
