Lady Helen Wood
Lady Helen Wood has been central to the Foundation’s story and to the family’s wider commitment to giving back.
Her care for people, particularly those facing difficult or overlooked challenges, continues to shape the Foundation’s next chapter through The Lady Helen Wood Fund.
“As a Trustee of The Wood Foundation, it is deeply satisfying to see how the programmes we support can have such a positive impact.”
A shared journey
Lady Helen Wood studied at Robert Gordon’s Institute of Technology and married Sir Ian just as she completed her studies. They have been married for 50 years and have three sons, Nicholas, Graham, and Garreth, and seven grandchildren.
Lady Helen has constantly supported Sir Ian over the course of his career. She has played a significant role in the successful development of Wood Group and Sir Ian’s other activities, and has hosted many business gatherings and events.
Supporting YPI and community wellbeing
Lady Wood is a Trustee and actively involved in The Wood Foundation. She focuses on the Youth and Philanthropy Initiative (YPI) often acting as a judge for the competitive presentations. She is also the sponsor of the NHS Grampian car park scheme where The Wood Foundation donated £10.75m to build a new multi-storey car park at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
Her support of this project was based on the experience of Lady Wood’s family and friends suffering anxiety as they struggled to find car parking at a stressful time, both as patients and visitors.
Meet our other Trustees
The Wood Foundation is guided by a Board of Trustees who bring experience across business, education, philanthropy and community impact.
Together, they help shape the Foundation’s direction and ensure its work stays focused on creating lasting value.
