Vanilla
Vanilla expands The Wood Foundation Africa’s agriculture portfolio into Uganda, supporting a crop with strong potential for smallholder farmers and growing communities.
Building value through traceable supply chains
The Wood Foundation Africa’s vanilla work is delivered through our investment in Enimiro Products Uganda Limited, a business working directly with smallholder farmers to produce, process and market high-quality vanilla for premium export markets.
The model supports transparent, traceable production that helps farmers diversify their income and builds long-term value across the supply chain.

What our vanilla investment supports
Enterprise growth
Through our investment in Enimiro Products Uganda Limited, we support a commercially focused business with social purpose at its centre.
The model connects smallholder farmers with the production, processing and marketing of high-quality vanilla for premium export markets.
Direct farmer relationships
Enimiro works directly with smallholder farmers, helping strengthen quality, trust and consistency across the vanilla value chain.
Closer relationships with farmers can open up better income opportunities and help them build a lasting role in a growing market.
Traceable, resilient production
The model is built around sustainable, transparent and traceable production, giving buyers confidence in where vanilla comes from and how it is produced.
Vanilla can be grown alongside crops such as banana and coffee, giving farmers another source of income and helping make livelihoods more resilient.
Enimiro Products Uganda Limited
The Wood Foundation Africa became a co-majority shareholder in Enimiro Products Uganda Limited in 2022, marking our entry into both Uganda and the vanilla sector.
Enimiro works directly with smallholder farmers to produce, process and market high-quality vanilla beans for premium export markets. Through this investment, we support Enimiro’s growth while helping strengthen sustainable, transparent and traceable vanilla production.
For The Wood Foundation Africa, Enimiro shows how venture philanthropy can move into a new crop and country while staying focused on the same purpose: improving livelihoods through commercially viable, socially impactful enterprise.
Part of a wider agriculture portfolio
Vanilla is one part of The Wood Foundation Africa’s wider agriculture portfolio, alongside our work in tea and sugar.
Across each crop, the focus is the same: investing in enterprise, strengthening the systems around farmers and creating routes to long-term value.
