We are pleased to support Doddie Aid’s annual cycling challenge which raises funds for My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, established by the late Scottish rugby legend Doddie Weir following his MND diagnosis in 2017.

The funds raised from the Doddie’5 Grand Tour 2025 will aid research into the causes of MND, investigate potential cures and assist those living with the condition.

The Wood Foundation has awarded £50,000 over five years in support of Doddie Aid cycling events.

Former Scotland rugby captain Rob Wainwright leads 300-strong team of cyclists, including sports commentator and former rugby player Scott Hastings and record-breaking cyclist Mark Beaumont who previously supported The Wood Foundation as a Philanthropy Ambassador, with a particular focus on the Youth and Philanthropy Initiative (YPI).

The four-day challenge sees cyclists cover 800 miles from Dublin to Edinburgh. They set off yesterday (Wednesday 5 February), finishing in Edinburgh on Saturday 8 February, ahead of the Scotland v Ireland Six Nations match on Sunday 9 February.

This year’s event is also the final part of Doddie Aid, the mass participation exercise event founded by Wainwright in 2021.

Ali MacLachlan, The Wood Foundation’s UK Director, said: “Doddie Weir’s dedication to helping those affected by MND continues to inspire. We are proud to once again support this cycling challenge and wish the best of luck to everyone taking part!”
