World Mental Health Day

As Scottish pupils receive their exam results today, it is important to remember that success is not just about the results themselves, but also the valuable skills developed along the way.

Real world learning, such as the Youth and Philanthropy Initiative (YPI), is critical in allowing students to develop skills in authentic, meaningful contexts. Teachers that work alongside young people every day see beyond exam results to the wider education journey necessary to allow young people to achieve at every stage.

Almost all teachers delivering YPI noted a significant development in young people’s confidence (99%), presentation skills (99%), teamwork (98%) and research skills (98%) – all key employability skills.

Furthermore, educators report that YPI has broadened students’ understanding of local social issues, enhancing their ability to articulate how charities support their communities (98%).

Excelerate, another significant Wood Foundation investment in partnership with schools across Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire and Angus, seeks to empower young people to thrive by enabling schools and partners to deliver meaningful and diverse learning opportunities that root the curriculum in the real world.
